Abstract

|
Cor pulmonale due to primary pulmonary hypertension has been considered a rare disease of unknown cause that occurs more commonly in young female. It has symptoms of right ventricular failure such as dyspnea, weakness, syncope and angina-like chest pain. The diagnosis is made only after the exclusion of other known causes of pulmonary hypertension. Although a variety of pulmonary vasodilators have been developed it has progressive course and poor prognosis.
With the results of pulsed doppler echocardiography, perfusion lung scan, and cardiac catheterization with digital subtraction angiography, we reported 2 cases of cor pulmonale due to primary pulmonary hypertension, of whom one case was 24 year old female with mild exertional dyspnea a few months later normal delivery, and the other case was 32 year old male who had dyspnea, weakness and lower leg edema, and reviewed some literatures about primary pulmonary hypertension.
